Marina Alex Retires From LPGA Tour After 2-Win Career At Season Finale
Marina Alex announced her retirement from professional golf following the CME Group Tour Championship, joining fellow LPGA Tour players Lexi Thompson and Ally Ewing in ending their full-time careers at the season finale.
The 34-year-old American's decision came amid strong recent form, including a runner-up finish at the Toto Japan Classic and T6 at the Maybank Championship. Alex acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but felt it was the right time, saying "This is what I want and it's the right decision for me right now."
Alex turned professional in 2012 and earned her LPGA Tour card for the 2014 season. Her career highlights include:
- Two LPGA Tour victories (2018 Cambia Portland Classic, 2022 Palos Verdes Championship)
- Best Major finish: T9 at 2014 Women's Open
- Member of 2019 U.S. Solheim Cup team
Woman holds gold trophy
While she's stepping away from full-time competition, Alex hasn't completely ruled out future appearances, noting she may attempt to qualify for U.S. Opens. She revealed she had considered retirement last year but continued playing, ultimately delivering some of her best golf in her final season.
Alex joins other notable 2023 retirements from the LPGA Tour, including Amy Olson who stepped away in April during her pregnancy.
