Sergio Garcia Returns to DP World Tour, Eyes Ryder Cup Comeback
Sergio Garcia has rejoined the DP World Tour after paying his LIV Golf-related fines, potentially opening the door for a return to the European Ryder Cup team. As the all-time record points scorer in the competition, Garcia's return could be significant for future Ryder Cup events.
The Spanish golfer had previously resigned from the tour around 18 months ago but is now listed in exemption Category 1, reserved for Race to Dubai Rankings winners (2017-2024) and Major champions (2017-2025).
In a recent Golf Monthly interview, Garcia expressed his desire to continue his Ryder Cup career, stating: "I feel like my game's still good enough to play at least two or three Ryder Cups, so if I can keep that level going, hopefully everything gets sorted."
European captain Luke Donald confirmed earlier discussions with Garcia about rejoining the tour, noting that he would need to follow all rules and regulations to become eligible for Ryder Cup selection.
The return process hasn't been straightforward. Garcia had previously attempted to pay his fines to rejoin but was initially discouraged by then-CEO Keith Pelley. However, he maintained his intention to return, as expressed on the Rick Shiels Golf Show in February.

While Garcia has successfully rejoined the tour, it remains to be seen if he will make the team for the Bethpage Black edition next year. The DP World Tour has also confirmed that appeals against fines from other LIV golfers, including Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and Adrian Meronk, are still pending.
