Four-time PGA Tour winner Kevin Kisner has expressed concerns about the tour becoming a "closed shop" as it implements new changes to address slow play issues. His comments came after missing the cut at the 2024 RSM Classic.

The RSM Classic, being the final FedEx Cup Fall event, was crucial in determining who would secure full playing privileges for the 2025 PGA Tour season. Players needed to finish within the top 125 of the standings to maintain their status.

Kisner took to social media to express his concerns: "There will be guys that lose their playing privileges today they you will never hear from again bc of how much of a closed shop @PGATour is becoming."

The upcoming changes include:

  • Reduction of full PGA Tour status from 125 to 100 players starting 2026
  • Conditional status for players finishing 101st-125th
  • Fewer Monday qualifier spots in limited-field events
  • Reduced maximum field sizes in open tournaments

The response from players has been mixed. While Tommy Gainey criticized the elimination of jobs, Peter Malnati supported the changes as "a step in the right direction." Michael Kim acknowledged the necessity of the changes despite personal reservations.

These changes have been officially approved by the PGA Tour Policy Board and Player Advisory Council, with implementation beginning as early as January.
