The 2024 RSM Classic, the final PGA Tour event of the season, features an intriguing storyline with amateur Luke Clanton in contention. This continues the "Year of the Amateur" trend, following Nick Dunlap's historic win at the American Express in January - the first amateur victory on Tour in 33 years.

Clanton, a Florida State junior, has already made history by becoming the first amateur in 66 years to achieve back-to-back top-10 finishes in July. Currently competing at the RSM Classic in Georgia, he sits just three shots off the lead after a third-round 68.

As an amateur, Clanton cannot accept prize money due to NCAA regulations, regardless of his final position. This means he'll earn $0 from the tournament's $7.2 million purse.

The prize money distribution for the 2024 RSM Classic:

  • Winner: $1,368,000
  • Runner-up: $828,400
  • Third place: $524,400
  • Fourth place: $372,400
  • Fifth place: $311,600

[Complete payout breakdown continues through 69th place, with amounts ranging from $275,500 to $15,732]

"I played great, just made some really dumb mistakes coming down the stretch," Clanton reflected after his third round. "I think that's just kind of from experience and kind of feeling that pressure again. I think to get myself another opportunity out here to win again is amazing."
