Lexi Thompson's Emotional Farewell Marks End of LPGA Tour Career
Lexi Thompson, a pioneering figure in women's golf, concluded her full-time LPGA Tour career at age 29 with an emotional finish at the CME Group Tour Championship. Her journey began remarkably early when she qualified for the U.S. Women's Open at just 12 years old, setting a record as the youngest qualifier.
Turning professional at 15, Thompson quickly established herself by securing her first LPGA Tour victory the following year. Despite immense early promise, she captured only one major championship - the 2014 Dinah Shore tournament, marked by the traditional winner's leap into Poppie's Pond.
Her final tournament ended with a tie for 49th place at two-under-par, including a challenging quadruple-bogey 8 in her last round. Due to TV scheduling, Thompson finished on the 9th hole instead of the customary 18th, prompting her to express disappointment about missing a traditional farewell on the final hole.

Beyond her competitive achievements, Thompson's legacy extends to her impact on the sport's next generation. As she reflected in her emotional press conference, "I wanted to leave a bigger impact as a role model, somebody who gave back to the game, somebody who made an impact on little girls and boys out here getting started in the game at a young age."
While some may debate whether she reached her full potential given her early promise, Thompson's dedication to fan engagement and growing the game remains undisputed. She consistently prioritized connecting with supporters, even during challenging periods in her career.
"The moments I'll cherish the most are probably with the fans," Thompson said. "Those are the moments I'll really remember back because they made an impact in my life as well."
