The Crypto.com Showdown, scheduled for December 17 at Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, will feature a unique prize structure where winners receive payment in Cronos cryptocurrency. Each player is rumored to receive appearance fees around $4 million, plus a multimillion-dollar cryptocurrency prize for the winners.
Turner Sports will broadcast the event in the United States, featuring commentary from Trevor Immelman, David Feherty, and Charles Barkley. The event is organized by Bryan Zuriff (The Match creator) and EverWonder Studio, with backing from RedBird Capital.
Crypto.com's involvement comes during a period of cryptocurrency market recovery, particularly following recent U.S. election developments that boosted investor confidence. The company's Cronos coin recently reached its highest value in over two years, marking a significant comeback from the 2022 crypto market collapse.
The partnership appears fitting given both golf's current state of transformation and cryptocurrency's evolving position in sports marketing, traditionally focused on younger audiences through NBA and NFL partnerships.
